A guide to interviews

Success at first interview stage is essential. If you do not make an excellent first impression and someone else does, then your application may not be progressed. Knowledge is power at this point and you will make a better impression if you can demonstrate a strong understanding of the company and its history, its competitive market and its future. We can help you at every step, providing you with the confidence needed to get to the next stage.

The services we offer include

• Detailed information on the organisation, the people interviewing you and their existing team.
• “Mock” interviews - if you are worried about a nervous habit or how you come across, we can put you in an interview-style situation to assess and advise you on your performance.
• We pass on detailed client feedback after every interview, both positive and negative. This allows us to work with you on areas for improvement, and strengths to exploit, maximising your chance of securing a position.

The steps you can take

We can do much to support you, but the things we ask you to do are equally important:

• Present yourself well and appropriately – remember it takes on average 30 seconds and a handshake for a first impression to be made.
• Prepare well and do as much research as possible, so that you are knowledgeable about the firm, its market and the role. We can help you but the more proactive you are, the better you will perform.
• Make notes after each interview about how you feel it went, the good points and bad points, what you liked and disliked about the company/role/people. In a stressful time, it is surprising how much of this you will forget. If you felt that you underperformed in a specific area or did not represent yourself accurately, we can often manage it positively when we take client feedback - a benefit of our excellent client relationships.
